Summer Fun & Backyard Beaches + More ::
According to usgs.gov, 21.8% of Maryland is covered by water making it one of the top 6 states surrounded by water! We are lucky enough to have a state that has many homes located on the water and/or in communities that have water amenities! See the map below where the yellow dots mark those that just recently sold according to Zillow.
Even if you’re not living on the water, I’m sure you can agree with Crewmate, Kara Shaffer, that “we are so fortunate to live so close to Ocean City as well as the Delaware beaches”. It is a true treasure to spend some time down at the ocean, basking in the sun, listening to the waves crash, enjoying the seafood restaurants, strolling the boardwalk, just to name a few highlights!
As for a quick weekend getaway, Kara recommends going to the vintage harbor port of St Michaels over on our Eastern Shore with her husband and two children. “I remember doing that as a kid. We rented bikes, rode all around on the trails there and went shopping.” What a wonderful long weekend plan!
Check out our list of other summer ideas in our area:
Beaches & Water Oriented Parks: Ocean City, Baltimore, North Beach, Calvert Cliffs State Park, Sandy Point State Park, Assateague Island, Quiet Waters Park, Downs Park (dog beach!), Lake Waterford Park, Kinder Farm Park
Snowballs: Kavern Snow Syrup
Water Park: Chesapeake Beach water park
The Maryland Ice Cream Trail! *A D&C fav & don’t forget your passport! (Fun fact: Did you know MD served up the first ice cream on the continent in 1744 as well as the first commercial sales of it in 1851?! I know, right?)
Whether you are traveling out of state this summer or looking for new areas to explore, nothing says “summer” like a s’more! We encourage you to spend some time in your own backyard making family memories and creating new summer traditions of your own! Kara suggests, “I love a traditional s’more, but I do also love a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup s’more!”
Happy SUMMER from Diane & Crew!
